I usually use Texas Pete Chili Sauce on my Boca burgers, as it is vegetarian (made with soy grits), but I desire a thicker and better tasting chili.

If anyone has a recipe or knows a product that doesn’t have beans I’d love to hear it. Thanks!

If you want bean less chili sauce, just mix TVP with your favorite BBQ sauce. Most large grocery stores, or health food stores carry it.

Mix:
1 cup TVP
1/2 cup BBQ sauce
1/2 cup water.
Spices of your choice.

Let stand for a few minutes and mix again. you may need to add a little more water.

TVP is textured vegetable protein. It’s what is left over after they make soybean oil. Boca products contain TVP.

I don’t know of a beanless one, but I’m a huge fan of Nalley’s vegetarian chili.

Bean-free chili? Hmmm. Well, that’ll be a bit more difficult, but we can work with it!

YOU’LL NEED
2 (15oz) cans of tomatoes seasoned for chili
1 bunch kale, chopped without stems
1/2 large onion (or 1 medium onion), diced
1-2 tablespoons minced garlic
1-2 shots whiskey or scotch (optional)
1 cup (or as much as you’d like) fake ground meat (I like LightLife’s Smart Ground…the "meat" is optional, though)
Chili powder (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
Cumin (to taste)
Salt (to taste)
Chipotle seasoning or chipotle packed in adoboe sauce (dice chipotle and use it + sauce)
1 small can fire roasted diced green chilies
3-4 tablespoons of oil (for sauteeing onions)

TO DO
Heat a large pot over medium-high heat.
Add oil, wait 3-4 seconds for it to heat up, add onions. Sautee 5-10 minutes.
Add garlic the last 2 minutes of sauteeing onions.
Add all the other ingredients to the pot (use the seasonings to taste), reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes or until heated through.

Serve.

If you don’t like beans but can stand lentils, add 1/2 cup of water to the pot and 1-2 handfuls of dry lentils, then cook until plump.
