I'm a vegeterian too and there are many tasty foods out there for vegetarians. for example for beef tacos you could substitute it with refried beans. for hamburgers you could substitue it with veggie patties. Try eating marinara pasta instead of ravioli with a side of salad and garlic bread or breadstick. You could eat this meal instead of for instance eating steak. Try making a veggie sanwhich. There are many possibilities. Hope this helps!

it's not that hard to find vegetarian food. eat what you normally would without meat! gosh its not that hard. sorry to be rude.. but yeah just eat what you normally would. and i'm a vegetarian to. anyways just eat like eggs and peanut butter and nuts and stuff for protein. you can even get tofu "chicken strips" and "chicken breasts" that taste almost like the real thing. same with burgers and hot dogs. plus tofu has more protein than meat so you only need half as much.

good luck.

I went vegan 2 years ago and it has been the best thing I could have done for myself and my family. I lost almost 40 lbs and look and feel so much better. I have taken lots of cooking and nutrition classes and read a massive amount on veganism and cooking healthy vegan food. I started my own website to help lots of friends and family eat this way as well and it is helping lots of other people get ideas too.

I have a meat eating husband and 18 year old son who I have to please too so most of my recipes are good for both types of eaters. There are some simple dishes with familiar ingredients and then a few with new things to try. Here is a link for a great breakfast that everyone loves for Oatmeal Waffles http://www.theveggiegal.com/blog/?p=1007
Here is one for a Super Sourdough Sandwich for lunch http://www.theveggiegal.com/blog/?p=603
Then for dinner here is a good dinner of Chili Mac http://www.theveggiegal.com/blog/?p=1218
Lastly for dessert here are some vegan blueberry muffins http://www.theveggiegal.com/blog/?p=1296

Some dairy things are hard to replace but there are some dishes you just don't need dairy for. There is a great vegan cheese that in my opinion is the best. It is called Daiya and it is even soy and gluten free too if that is an issue. I just made a vegan pizza with it tonight and YUM.

Good luck to you and I hope you find what you are looking for, it is a road worth traveling on!

Can you eat anything with E.V.O.O.? (extra virgin olive oil) If so try grilling some portobello mushrooms, coating it with little bit of EVOO, and a dash of salt and some minced garlic. Stuff it wil grilled eggplants, or grilled bell peppers, or tofu... and then top it off with dried cranberries... then bake for about 15 min... it's awesome! < a new meal I just tried the other day!

Another thing you can try is grill some pineapple chunks, sweet potatoes (cut into squares), and a jicama (sliced into little lines). then top with a little honey (if you are a vegan that eats honey) or substitute honey with brown sugar, then sprinkle some hot peppers... It's a hot fruity salad!

If you are feeling social anxiety about your food allergies, then no obligation to tell the hosts of the dinner parties. Just bring a homemade dish to the dinner parties that you know is "safe" for you to eat. Cheers! :)

since you have food allergies: you definitely want to avoid genetically modified foods :: many of them are spliced with animals genes: so they wouldn't really be vegan anyways =\

from my experience working at different restaurants and cafes (and being vegan for the past ten years), i can tell you that most vegan restaurants are very sensitive to food allergies as well. the ones ive worked at have all been very careful to maintain gluten-free options and certain menu items consistent with other allergies.

depending on where you're at, id say just try your normal vegetarian/vegan restaurants and mention your allergies to your server and they would be able to help you out.

if you're in need to locating any vegan/veggie restaurants or food stores, i definitely keep www.happycow.com in my bookmarks. it lets you search based on location.

i tend to cook a ton and love having people over for meals, and if you do tell your host of your allergies, it's pretty likely they might take it as a fun challenge to come up with something they can prepare to include you in. i know i definitely would.

Peanut butter is popular with many kids. And I packed baggies with a mixture of peanuts and raisins for my daughter. Bagels with almost anything on them are good. If she likes hummus, that's great with crackers or carrot & celery sticks. You can buy individual servings of unsweetened applesauce. Kashi makes really great snack bars - much less sugar than most granola bars, but they taste yummy.

If she likes cold veggie chicken, it should be fine; no meat proteins to spoil and cause food poisoning.

If she likes "chikn" nuggets cold, then sure! My daughter takes PB&J, cheese sandwiches (animal rennet free of course), egg salad or hard boiled eggs, fruit, whole wheat crackers and cheese, pasta salad.

I know you said that your daughter eats eggs and dairy but I would, nonetheless, suggest that you look at some of the great lunches at Vegan Lunch Box: http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/

There are some great ideas for school lunches there. Recipes are sometimes provided/linked and if not the cookbook the recipe came from is almost always listed. (Also, the author of the blog is coming out with a cookbook of her own soon!)

Unfortunately, the blog is not updated daily anymore, but you can look through the archives of the last year where the author updated every day with the lunch she sent with her son to school.
